Jennifer Corcoran of the Biometeorology Group
MS Candidate
As an undergraduate, I studied mathematics, physics, and photography at the
Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. During my last year in Washington,
I completed an internship working at the Wind River Canopy Crane Research Facility
where I shadowed a technician from the University of California Davis. This was an
extremely valuable experience and ultimately led me, along with many other influential
events at Evergreen, to the Biometeorology group at the University of Minnesota. I am
originally from Minnesota and graduated from Rosemount High School and The School of
Environmental Studies on the Minnesota Zoo campus in Apple Valley. I am currently
pursuing my Masters degree in Soil Science, with an emphasis in Climatology. My main
interests are in biosphere-atmosphere interactions at different spatial scales and I
am researching methods to model these energy fluxes remotely with modern satellite
technology using Matlab, ERDAS Imagine, and ESRI ArcGIS software. I enjoy being at
the University of Minnesota and intend to use the skills I gain through this degree
program after I graduate next spring to continue and deepen my pursuit of education
in the environmental sciences, whether in a PhD program or in government or industry.
